QUB: Shameful history of gay conversion therapy

It was recently revealed that Queen’s University Belfast performed ‘aversion therapy’ on gay students during the 1960s in an effort to produce ‘heterosexual interest’. After one victim spoke out, a Queen’s spokesperson expressed regret for the university’s role in this damaging treatment. This is simply too little too late for the many vulnerable people that have already suffered.

Workers fighting back – we need a programme to win!

There are signs of an upturn in workers’ struggles in Northern Ireland, taking place through the trade unions. We have seen the successful battles to save industrial jobs at Harland & Wolff and Wrightbus. Civil servants are striking against poverty pay and attacks on terms and conditions, and are likely to soon be joined by health workers and staff in Royal Mail and Parcelforce. This is not an isolated phenomenon, but reflective of a rising tide of struggle in many countries provoked by the ongoing crisis of capitalism.

Workers need a political voice!

Building a mass political party for the working class here will not be an easy task, but it is a vital one. We need a force which stands up for the interests of workers, young people, women and oppressed groups; which stands for solidarity, mutual respect and compromise on the issues which divide our communities; and which fights for a socialist future free from poverty and division

Health unions ballot for action on pay

Almost 12 months have passed since health unions in Northern Ireland began negotiations on pay, terms and conditions. These discussions began as a result of the acceptance of the Agenda for Change Refresh Agreement by health unions in England and Wales in 2018.
