The BBC have offered the BNP a platform on Question Time. The far-right BNP won 2 seats in the recent European elections. This party is attempting to develop a respectable image, but their core is out-right fascism. Their founder called Hitler’s ‘Mein Kampf’ his ‘Bible’ and Nick Griffin, the current leader, regularly denied the Holocaust.
Plans to close 15 libraries across Belfast – a massive 45% cut in library provision - have been announced by the NI Library Authority. East Belfast will be particularly hit hard with libraries at Ballyhackamore, Tullycarnet, Braniel, Woodstock, Ballymacarrett and Gilnahirk facing closure.
The sacking of four bosses of NI Water for overseeing corrupt links with private companies is further proof that privatisation is central to the water charges agenda.
NI Water Chairman, Chris Mellor and Directors John Ballard, Ruth Thompson and Declan Gormley were sacked after it became known that former NI Water bosses had been given jobs by companies which had been awarded major contracts. Don’t feel any sympathy for these bosses though - they received more than £500,000 between them in bonuses and fees in just three years!
Following approaches from friends and family of Mr Brendan Lillis, a prisoner in Maghaberry prison, who is close to death, Socialist Party MEP for Dublin, Paul Murphy, is appealing to Northern Ireland Justice Minister, Mr David Ford, to intervene with a view to allowing Mr Lillis to spend his last weeks at home on humanitarian grounds.
