Socialist Party members elected to NIPSA presidency
At the Nipsa (Northern Ireland Public Service Alliance) conference yesterday in Derry, Socialist Party members won both the union’s President and Vice President positions and the Left also took the postion of Hon Treasurer.
This was despite the right wing organising itself to try to win, following the Socialist Party winning the Vice President position at last year’s conference.
Padraig Mulholland is the newly elected President and Lucia Collins the Vice President.
The US International Trade Commission will decide on 1st February whether to uphold 300% tariffs on Bombardier's innovative C-Series jet as a result of complaints made by Boeing. If upheld, this effectively blocks sales and leasing of the C-Series within the US, which represents 50% of the market, and puts in jeopardy the entire programme. Without the C-Series programme, the future of Bombardier in Northern Ireland is very much at risk.
After years of redundancies and attempts to downgrade hard won terms and conditions, the announcement by aerospace firm Bombardier’s global bosses of their intention to sell their operations in Northern Ireland and Morocco creates further uncertainty and concern for workers and their families.
